Michael Stamos (b. 1996, Chicago) is an American fine artist based in Brooklyn.  His studio practice focuses primarily on realist portraiture, animals, and townscapes, though he occasionally creates large-scale abstract works.  Influenced by early 20th century phenomenology, Stamos uses what he calls “sensitive realism” to explore the fundamental commonalities in the ways different individuals perceive the world.  His paintings have been exhibited in group shows in New York City and Provincetown, MA, and he is currently preparing portraits for a solo show in Provincetown later this year. 

Stamos received his BA from The University of Chicago.  Following a short career in finance, he went on to study painting at The Art Students League of New York, where he became a student and mentee of master portraitist Sharon Sprung.  Committed to the arts in all forms, Stamos also serves on the Board of Advisors of Anthology Film Archives.
